So I downloaded a bunch of .mkvs which are 780p, and I wanted to put them on my Kindle Fire.
I was wondering if there was a way to downscale to 480p and lower the file size.

The only thing I can think of is a video encoder such as the one I mentioned before, "The Any Video Converter" you can choose the video resolution to be whatever you want.

Hmmm, maybe MeGui would work.

It asks me to re-encode video, but I'm not sure which to pick...
I'll be playing these on a Kindle Fire, so space is an issue, though I want good quality as well.
Any ideas?
(Using any video converter btw. Couldn't figure out megui)

Are you asking which file type to convert to? Because I think you can keep it in .mkv format and just lower the resolution which is in the video options on the lower right hand corner of Any Video Converter.

It's asking me to re-encode the video in a number of codecs...
For some reason when I choose "original" the video is all choppy.

That is weird... hmmm maybe it wants you to encode it to a different format than mkv first? I see a lot of reference to what you wanna do on the internet, and they usually suggest converting it to another format and then back to mkv. I'm just worried you'll lose subtitles :S

Yeah, I tried downscaling the video using VLC, and I used the same codec and everything, and the filesize was where I wanted it (around 150MB), and the quality was rather good, but the subtitles were gone.
I'm not quite sure why.

What you need to do is convert the soft subs to hard subs. Check this link out. (http://animeswift.com/threads/289-Best-program-for-hard-subbing-anime?highlight=subs) Handbreak is also recommended by me now :) If you need a tutorial on how to use Handbreak, I'll be happy to make one.

I think I've found a method...
I convert it using Any Video Converter to a .mkv encoded in mjpeg.
This apparently converts the subtitles to hardsubs, with high quality. However, the filesize is humongous.
Then, I convert it again using VLC. Because the subs were already embedded in, I don't lose the subtitles.
Afterwards, it comes out with a nice little 150 MB high quality 848x480 video.

There are issues regarding Audio and Video, sometimes they not totally sync to each other(like delay in audio, sometimes to advance) even I adjust the settings... How did you fix that problem? Because of this problem, I stopped using Any Video Converter and try Format Factory, but now I'm having problems to it now so wanted check if the latest versions of Any Video Converter is okay...
